Why choose B.O.N Liquid Gold Pure Tissue Oil for Scars?
When your skin is damaged, it goes to work repairing the damage. Ensuring the right ‘raw materials’ are readily available and that the skin is protected and hydrated, will help your skin heal well. Tissue oils are formulated to hydrate, protect the skin and provide these ‘raw materials’ directly via the skin.
There are three approaches to formulating a tissue oil …
Approach #1: Mineral Oil based Tissue Oil
These are the most common tissue oil products. Liquid paraffin is used as a low-cost base with other ingredients added.
You will often see lots of these products stacked up on the shelves as they are the cheapest to manufacture, so more of the profits are available for extensive marketing campaigns.
The following are typical of mineral oil based tissue oil products:
- Relatively inexpensive
- Tends to be greasy due to liquid paraffin sitting on top of skin, forming a layer that can block pores, rather than being absorbed
- Generally preserved with BHT, a know cancer causing chemical
- Contains colourants
- Contains retinyl palmitate (contra-indicated in pregnancy)
- Not suitable for all skin types

If you care about natural, nutritious products for your skin, here are three reasons to avoid mineral oil based tissue oil products (read the full post by Dr Frank Lipman).
Reason #1: The mineral oil may contain toxic substances.
A 2011 report by the National Toxicology Program, says this about mineral oils used for skin care products;
“Untreated and mildly treated mineral oils are known to be human carcinogens (cancer causing) based on sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity from studies in humans.”
Mineral oil is available in different grades. At the bottom of the list is ‘technical’ grade, which is used to lubricate engines and equipment. ‘Cosmetic’ grade mineral oil, is more purified than technical grade.
In another study, researchers stated,
“There is strong evidence that mineral oil hydrocarbons are the greatest contaminant of the human body, amounting to approximately 1 gram per person. Possible routes of contamination include air inhalation, food intake, and dermal [skin] absorption.”
The bottom line is that you can never be sure of the actual grade of mineral oil used in a product. Also, researchers are concerned that much of the mineral oil we are exposed to on a daily basis, contains contaminants that could affect our health. They’re also stating that this topic has not been sufficiently studied to really put our minds at ease.
Reason #2: Mineral oil clogs pores
Mineral oil is considered “comedogenic,” which means it can clog your pores and increase the risk of acne and blackheads. The more refined, the less comedogenic, but there’s no way to know how refined the low-cost base liquid paraffin used in the product really is.
Even a high grade of mineral oil can trap ingredients in your pores, because the oil forms a physical barrier over your skin. If you already have bacteria on your skin (most likely), or if the product has other ingredients that can clog pores, even the most refined mineral oil will keep these sealed on top of your skin, increasing risk of breakouts.
Reason #3: Mineral oil is inert — it contains no nutrients
For us, this is probably the best reason to avoid mineral oil. Yes, it may contribute to body contamination, and it may even case break outs. But it’s not doing anything for your skin. It’s not infusing it with nutrients. It’s not providing hydration that actually goes into the skin where it counts. It’s just sitting there on the top of your skin preventing moisture loss.
Skin care products that use natural oils provide so many benefits, including essential fatty acids that plump up skin, antioxidants to fight free radical damage, and nutrients to help maintain skin firmness. Why settle for an inert film made from petroleum when you can feed your skin?
Approach #2: The B.O.N Way – Natural Oil based Tissue Oil
This is our motto …

3. Organic Tissue Oil
These formulations contain 100% natural organic ingredients.

- Zero exposure to potentially harmful synthetic chemicals
- A 100% natural product
The cons are:
- Exposure of the ingredients to air will result in the oil going rancid over time
- The fragrance isn’t always pleasant
- The shelf life is often relatively short
- These products are relatively expensive as organic ingredients don’t typically benefit from the economies of scale
- Often not widely available
- Seldom undergo clinical trials
Natural Tissue Oil for your Scars – B.O.N Liquid Gold
… What you should know about scars
A scar is the result of a natural process of a wound healing. Generally an abrasion can cause some form of scarring – this is caused by scar tissue replacing the areas of your normal skin.
You have a higher chance of getting a scar when your skin takes longer then three to four weeks to heal.
There are four common types of scarring:
- Hypertrophic
- Atrophic
- Stretch Marks
- Keloids
… The hypertrophic scar
Hypertrophic scars are one of the most common forms of scarring. Although they also have a red raised appearance, they do not continue to grow outside the boundaries of your abrasions but do tend to thicken over time.
There is also a chance it can be accompanied by that annoying itch that generally comes from raised scars.
… The keloid scar
Keloids are one of the most unappealing forms of scarring.
If you are prone to the formation of keloid scarring you can become paranoid about injuring yourself.
The keloid scar is a raised, reddish nodular looking form of scar tissue – it can continue to grow and develop into a benign tumor (non-cancerous tumor). Severe itchiness can also occur with these scars.
… The atrophic scars
This type of scar is commonly associated with acne, chicken pox or infections in your skin. They appear sunken, and as a result you are left with those indents on your skin.
The sunken appearance? Its due to your muscle or fat structure under the scar failing to support that area of skin.
… Stretch marks
Yes, most of you know these unappealing red or sliver lines stretching across your skin.
These are thee most common form of scars. One minute they just arrive on your skin – leaving you feeling unattractive or self-conscious.
Stretch marks generally appear during:
- Teen growth.
- Pregnancy.
- Rapid weight gain or loss.

B.O.N Liquid Gold Pure Tissue OilI suffered a severe burn to my lower arm in July 2010 and my Doctor treated me with burn creams and Zinc ointment, but my wound went septic and I was left with a black arm, keloids and contractures.
After that, I tried Vitamin E creams and took oral Vitamin E to try help.
Nothing helped and my scarring was black, mottled and one section in particular was very raised, hard and contorted.
Now after 3 months of using Liquid Gold Pure Tissue Oil, I am left with a totally different looking scar.My skin has toned almost 100% back to normal colour, the mottling has 90% disappeared and the raised scar tissue has flattened to my normal arm height and is totally supple.
The product has such a wonderful gentle smell and feels so calming and beautiful when I apply it to my skin.
I love using B.O.N’s products and feel good about recommending them to any clients that come to our Pharmacy.
